Congratulations to the 2012 Sunshine State Scholars!
The Florida Education Foundation recently recognized Florida's top 11th grade students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), recruited them to stay in Florida for their postsecondary education, and introduced them to the vast array of STEM career opportunities available in their home state.

The program was sponsored by the Helios Education Foundation, Atkins, Gulf Power, Universal Orlando Resort, Florida Trend's NEXT Magazine, and the Florida Lottery.
In the fall of 2011, each school district throughout Florida selected its top 11th grade STEM student based on established criteria.
These students, along with their parents and teachers, convened for an extraordinary 2-day program where they received recognition for their achievements, talked with STEM industry leaders to learn about amazing careers and internships, and met with representatives from Florida's colleges and universities to learn about programs of study and available scholarships.
Program speakers included Commissioner Gerard Robinson; SUS Chancellor Frank T. Brogan; Dr. Jimmie Davis, President of STEMflorida; Roberto Martinez, Vice Chairman of the State Board of Education; Rosemary E. Woods, Vice President, Transportation, Atkins; and Dr. Stephen K. Klasko, Dean, Morsani School of Medicine, USF.
