Florida Department of Education/Macy's 2010 Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Megan Allen - the 2010 Teacher of the Year! The Hillsborough County 4th Grade General Education teacher at Cleveland Elementary School was named the Florida Department of Education/Macy's 2010 Teacher of the Year at the awards gala on Thursday, July 9, 2009.Since 1989, The Florida Teacher of the Year Program has received funding from Macy’s and the Macy’s Foundation. The Macy’s Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to excellence in education with a significant annual donation to the Florida Education Foundation. The funds are used to make cash awards to teachers and their schools. Each of the District Teachers of the Year receives $750 and their schools receive $250. The winner will go on to compete in the National Teacher of the Year Program.
The Florida Teacher of the Year receives a $10,000 award and each of the four regional finalists receives $5,000. Their respective schools each receive a gift of $1,000. In celebration, Macy’s hosts a formal dinner and awards banquet. The teachers are also honored by Macy’s through numerous advertising and promotional materials. The Teacher of the Year also serves a two-year term as an ex-officio member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
