David Fechtel has had a passion for speech and debate since he watched his older siblings compete. Following in their footsteps, he competed in speech and debate through middle and high school. After graduating, David continued his involvement with debate by coaching policy debate for a year. More recently, he has volunteered to tutor and teach refugee students in the Tampa area and taught critical thinking and prerequisite skills for speech and debate. Through these experiences he learned the joys of teaching. He has seen firsthand how the skills learned through speech and debate have helped his life and is committed to expanding the involvement in it. Through his position he hopes to pass along the skills that he has learned and benefitted from to other students.  

David graduated cum laude from the University of Florida where he studied political science and history. He lives in Tampa with his wife Danielle and their two cats. He enjoys reading, playing basketball, and traveling.
