As a state, nation and global society we are collectively implementing strategies and practices that help ensure the safety and health of our residents as we confront the challenges of COVID-19. With the health of Florida's students and teachers as the number one priority, the Florida Department of Education has made the decision to cancel the events below. Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance specific to COVID-19 in Florida, it has been determined that this is a necessary step to reduce the risk of spreading the virus throughout our communities.
This conference provides a valuable opportunity for state agency personnel to gain knowledge about MOA compliance requirements and is vital to the success of state agency MOA programs. We regret the cancellation of this event, but strongly encourage all state agency officials to participate in 2021.
Each Sunshine State Scholar has achieved significant academic accomplishments and we are confident that they will continue to excel and grow into leaders who may one day be called on to help solve future challenges the nation might face. We commend each scholar for their extraordinary achievements and regret that we are unable to provide congratulations in person.
The Healthy Schools Summer Academy is a professional development opportunity for teachers and administrators of health education and physical education content with special emphasis on other subject area courses with integrated health education benchmarks. We encourage you to plan to participate next year.
The Commissioner's Business Recognition Awards honors the local community leaders and partners for their efforts in bringing positive change and implementing bold, innovative approaches to improve the academic performance of students in Florida's education system and communities. While the in-person ceremony this year is cancelled, submission review will continue and the Commissioner will recognize all business partners who participated.
The Summer Science and Math STEAMposium provides a unique opportunity for educators and STEAM stakeholders to unite around the common goal of preparing the Florida STEAM workforce for the future by building foundations for each child in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. We encourage you to plan to participate in this important professional development program next year.
The goal of the institute is to increase content knowledge and to provide the opportunity for district implementation planning in order to impact teacher practice and student achievement. We encourage school districts to participate in the institute next year.
